According to a senior health official, effective precautions and adherence to coronavirus (Covid-19) preventative measures have prevented schools from switching back to online instruction.
The Ministry of Public Health’s (MoPH) head of vaccination, Dr. Soha al-Bayat, stated on Monday on the Hayatna show on Qatar TV that inspections at schools to verify adherence to the precautionary and preventative measures will continue. The ministry will conduct sporadic inspections to stop the spread of an infection.
“If numerous examples are detected in a particular class, the class will be closed. If cases are discovered among teachers, the teaching staff will be requested to temporarily switch to online instruction, she said. But while cautious steps are now being followed, no such action has been taken.
Dr. al-Bayat mentioned that the MoPH assigned a school an e-mail address when discussing the preparations the ministry undertook for the start of the new academic year and the return of courses after the summer break.
Through this email ID, schools can request any exams and report cases.
“The planning began at the conclusion of the previous academic year. Following up on the cases would allow us to make the right judgments in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
In addition to forcing everyone to take a quick antigen test prior to reporting to class on the first day back from the summer break, the measures also call for the wearing of masks in schools.
Dr. al-Bayat emphasized that the pandemic has not yet been contained, despite Qatar’s success in containing COVID-19.
“We have noticed that other nations have witnessed further waves and a surge in instances,” she said. “Qatar is not an isolated area.”
The official did point out that following the Covid-19 recommendations has helped to lower the number of illnesses and fatalities.
