2022 FIFA WORLD CUP QATAR STADIUMS WITH AFRICAN MATCH FIXTURES

With the 2022 FIFA world cup being only some months away, all effort is being made to make all 8 stadiums in Qatar super ready ahead of the event. All stadiums have been fully constructed with ongoing finishings.

Below are the peculiarities of these beautiful stadiums expected to host people from across the 193 countries in the world between the kick-off day Monday November 21 to the final day Sunday December 18, 2022.

Al Thumama Stadium

This Stadium was designed to fit the ‘gahfiya’ – a traditional woven cap worn by men and boys across the Middle East which forms a fundamental layer of the traditional clothing of the region.

Al Janoub Stadium

The Al Janoub stadium which is the very first Qatar venue to be constructed from scratch, is located in Al Wakrah.

Education City Stadium

The Education City Stadium is situated in Education City, home of Qatar Foundation. Its façade comprises triangles that form complex, diamond-like patterns which seems to change colour with the sun’s movement across the sky.

Khalifa International Stadium

Since 1976, the Khalifa International Stadium has been known for hosting major sporting events. It is the first tournament-ready venue for Qatar 2022.

The fabulous Al Bayt Stadium takes its inspiration from ‘bayt al sha’ar’ (historical tents used by nomadic people in Qatar and the Gulf region. It is the second largest stadium after Lusail Stadium.

The Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium is located in the city of Al Rayyan. It is named after the Emir of Qatar, Ahmad Bin Ali Al Thani who ruled from 1960-1972. The stadium was built on the site of the old venue with many of the materials from the demolished venue used in the new project.
