There are three different ways to go to Qatar: via air, land, or sea, according to the ILoveQatar.net (ILQ) team. Let’s examine them now.

Hayya Portal application as entry permit for visitors

For anyone wishing to travel to Qatar, the Hayya gateway is the application gateway for tourist visas. The following are the categories for Qatari tourist visas:

  • A1 – Tourist Entry Visa: For general tourists, and can be applied for via the new Hayya Portal.
  • A2 – GCC Resident Entry Visa: GCC residents can now visit Qatar easily with a dedicated GCC Resident Entry Visa regardless of profession.
  • A3 – Entry Visa with Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA): Applies to visa and residency holders of the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and/or Schengen.
  • A4 – Entry Visa for Companion of GCC Citizen: Applies to GCC Citizens who would like to bring companions during their travel.
  • C – Hayya with Me: International Hayya Cardholders who visited Qatar during the World Cup can invite up to 3 family members/ friends via Voucher Codes to visit Qatar.

 

On August 10, 2023, the Ministry of Public Health revealed the groups excluded from the requirement of having health insurance; some of these groups also include guests.

  • All transit passengers
  • Temporary entry travellers
  • Visitors with on-arrival visas for a period of (30) days of their entry into the country

For many, this is the most convenient and ideal method of entering Qatar. Doha International Airport (DIA) and Hamad International Airport (HIA) are the airports of entry by air.

The national airline is Qatar Airways, and the nation is served by other international carriers.

As a peninsula, Qatar and Saudi Arabia have just one land border, which is known as the Abu Samra Land Border. The distance from central Doha to this entry point, which is the only one accessible by land, is around 1.5 hours.

Subject to certain restrictions, tourists who wish to enter Qatar through the Abu Samra Land Border may also do so in a private vehicle.

Travelers arriving in Qatar by boat enter the country through two ports. These are the ports of Hamad and Doha. Tourists are brought in by chartered cruise ships that dock here.
