UN Security Council’s praise of Qatar’s efforts for Gaza ceasefire reflects global appreciation for diplomacy

The United Nations Security Council’s (UNSC) recognition of the State of Qatar for its diplomatic efforts to bring about a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, according to Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, reflects both the prestige of Qatar and the respect accorded by the international community for its effective diplomacy and role in advancing regional and global peace and stability.

The State of Qatar is eager to keep working with the UN and its relevant agencies at all levels to lessen the suffering of civilians in Gaza, as said in a statement provided to Qatar News Agency (QNA) by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN.

Her Excellency made note of the fact that the State of Qatar has increased its funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in this regard, while also reiterating Qatar’s warning that the agency’s work and its ability to address the urgent needs of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria will suffer if its funding is suspended.
