Sheikha Asma scales six of the seven summits in quest to complete Explorers Grand Slam
Qatari mountaineer Sheikha Asma bint Thani Al-Thani has become the first Qatari woman to reach the summit of Mt Denali, the highest mountain peak in North America with a height of 6,190m and one of the seven summits.
With the latest summit, Sheikha Asma has achieved the rare feat of climbing six of the seven summits in the world, with only one more summit left to scale in order to complete the Explorers Grand Slam.
Explorers Grand Slam – one of the most coveted adventure achievements that only a handful of people have ever completed, is dream mountaineering goal for climbers to reach the North Pole and South Pole, as well as climb the seven summits (top peaks of every continent).
Narrating her experience of scaling Mt Denali, Sheikha Asma said on Instagram that she was grateful to be climbing and learning from the best.
“Denali you have been amazing. 4 days from drop off to summit and out. A whirl wind of a climb, filled with beautiful scenery, changing weather, all the emotions you can imagine and lots and lots of strawberry jam,” she said.
“Climbing with the 2 legends @nimsdai (Nirmal Purja) and @mingma_david_sherpa (Mingma Gyabu Sherpa) made it even more memorable. The greatest relationships are the ones you never expected to be in. So grateful to be climbing and learning from the best.”
