Qatar’s Permanent Representative to Unesco participates in event marking anniversary of Nice joining World Heritage List

HE Dr Nasser bin Hamad a-Hanzab, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (Unesco), took part in a celebration on Sunday to honor the first year since Nice, in southern France, was added to the Unesco World Heritage List.
HE Dr. al-Hanzab received the Order of the Golden Eagle during the celebration in recognition of his work as a member of the Unesco World Heritage Committee in preserving and enhancing the world’s cultural heritage, as well as his contributions to promoting both international peace and cross-cultural understanding.
In a speech presented on the occasion’s fringes, Nice’s mayor, Christian Estrosi, praised the heritage committee’s member states for helping to advance the goals of sustainable development by promoting cultural heritage aspects.
It is a great honor to represent Qatar at the event, HE Dr al-Hanzab said in a statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA).
Additionally, he reaffirmed Qatar’s dedication to fostering international cooperation and protecting the world heritage as outlined in the 1972 World Heritage Convention.
HE In addition, Dr. al-Hanzab gave Nice a FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 shirt as a memento of the cultural relations forged through sport between the cities that overlook the Mediterranean and the Arab world and the Middle East.
In November of last year, Qatar received the majority of the votes and was chosen to serve on the Unesco Heritage Committee. – QNA
