Qatar’s permanent mission to UN organizes exhibition on World Cup hosting experience
In partnership with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the UN opened an exhibition at UN Headquarters in New York called “Journey and Legacy” that highlights Qatar’s experience hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
HE Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina Mohammed, HE President of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly Dennis Francis, as well as other permanent representatives of the member states in New York and UN officials attended the opening ceremony.
In a speech at the exhibition’s opening, HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani emphasized the benefits of Qatar 2022’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup for the Middle East and the Arab world, highlighting the tournament’s enduring legacy for future generations.
Her Excellency said, “The tournament set new standards for future World Cups in areas related to social, economic, and environmental development, as well as infrastructure.” Its main goal was to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
A special presentation on the meticulous planning that went into every aspect of Qatar’s hosting of the tournament was also featured at the opening ceremony. It discussed the positive impact of the programs and initiatives launched as part of this historic event, as well as the alignment between the completed tournament projects and Qatar National Vision 2030, which are still beneficial as essential facilities at the national, regional, and international levels.
