Qatar World Cup will be my last: Lionel Messi
Lionel Messi has stated that the World Cup in Qatar later this month will be his final competition.
The 35-year-old Argentina star will compete in his fifth World Cup, although he has yet to win the championship event.
In a Star Plus interview, Messi stated, “There’s some nervousness and nerves at the same time… it is the last one.”
The Paris Saint-Germain striker opened up about his plans for after the competition, which begins on November 20, for the first time.
Messi was vague when asked if he planned to leave the national team after Qatar.
In 1978 and 1986, Argentina claimed World Cup victories. On Nov. 22, the team will face Saudi Arabia in Group C’s first match, followed by matches against Mexico and Poland.
Messi continued, “I don’t know if we are big favorites, but I think Argentina is a candidate due of its history, which means even more now given how we got here. But anything can happen in a World Cup, and every game is challenging. The favored don’t always come out on top.
