Qatar to Alleviate the Effects of Climate Change

The Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council has signed a joint cooperation program with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, to mitigate the effects of climate change.

The signing was attended by HE Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al Thani, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, and Engineer Omar Ali Al-Ansari, Secretary-General of the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council.

The cooperation program was signed by Ms. Aisha Ahmed Al-Baker, Director of Planning and Quality Department at the Ministry, and Ms. Nada Al-Awlaki, Director of Research, Development, and Innovation Programs at the Council.

This program comes within the framework of implementing the Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation Strategy 2030, and benefiting from it in supporting the sustainability of the Qatari environment, addressing the phenomenon of climate change, and protecting the biological diversity of natural habitats, through the use of knowledge and advanced technology to achieve the objectives of the Qatar National Strategy for Environment and Climate Change.

The areas of cooperation covered several strategic axes, including supporting the identification of challenges and opportunities related to the environment and climate change in areas where knowledge and innovation can make effective contributions to finding innovative solutions for them.

And developing partnership and cooperation between the Ministry on the one hand, and local companies and international companies’ research centers in Qatar based on research, development, and innovation on the other hand, with the aim of supporting projects to develop innovative technological solutions in Qatar in priority areas.

The areas of cooperation also include the design and implementation of joint cooperation programs in order to stimulate scientific research and obtain high-quality research outputs in areas related to the environment and climate change.

In addition to the implementation of training programs, workshops, and field visits to hone a selection of innovation work teams, and the capabilities of managing innovation projects in cooperation and partnership with the private sector.

Also under the cooperation program, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change will participate as an actor in the Qatar National Gateway for Research, Development, and Innovation, which the Council launched in 2021, to be a comprehensive national electronic platform to build cooperation and partnership between all parties concerned with research, development, and innovation in the State of Qatar.

In this regard, Ms. Nada Al-Awlaki said that the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council is working to promote a culture of innovation in the government sector, thus contributing to achieving the sector’s future goals, and providing new opportunities to benefit from innovative solutions and advanced technology in various strategic areas, which contributes to building a sustainable future based on knowledge and innovation as one of the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.

The Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council is working to develop the research, development and innovation system in order to achieve the desired ambitions and aspirations towards building a knowledge economy characterized by a heavy reliance on research, development and innovation, and therefore, achieving sustainable prosperity for the State of Qatar, diversified and sustainable economic growth, as well as enhancing the country’s ability to confront urgent national challenges.
