In light of the appalling humanitarian conditions experienced by civilians, particularly women and children, the State of Qatar applauds the Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during the holy month of Ramadan and hopes that it is a step toward a permanent cessation of fighting in the Strip.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes the necessity of committing to putting the resolution into action, particularly by putting an end to the violence, allowing humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza Strip immediately and freely, and participating constructively in the current negotiations. In this context, it attests to the State of Qatar’s ongoing mediation efforts in coordination with allies to end the Gaza War and alleviate its humanitarian consequences.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirms the State of Qatar’s firm position in support of the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people, first and foremost being their right to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Ministry also expresses the State of Qatar’s hope that the vote of 14 countries in favor of the resolution will constitute a fundamental shift in the international community’s awareness of the seriousness of the tragic conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories and the Gaza Strip in particular, strengthening international efforts aimed at implementing the two-state solution and resuming the peace process on the basis of the resolutions.
