Qatar ranked world’s second safest country: A haven for residents and tourists
Being among the safest and best locations to live is one of the most remarkable aspects of living in Qatar.This year, Numbeo—a crowdsourced online database utilized by international news agencies—ranked Qatar as the second safest nation in the world, only behind the United Arab Emirates.
Numbeo’s safety index took into account a number of factors, such as crime rates, the safety of solo strolling, and the frequency of property crimes and stolen cars.

In terms of crime rates, auto theft, house invasions, physical assaults, and drug-related offenses, Qatar scored remarkably low.
On the other hand, it received great marks for daytime and nighttime safety, demonstrating the safe atmosphere that permits citizens to move freely throughout the city, regardless of gender or country, and for kids to play in parks and playgrounds.

A single Filipino woman named Jillian Malinao commended Qatar’s polite society and low crime rate, saying, “It’s been comforting for me to live here. Late at night or when I’m by myself at home, I feel comfortable walking home. There is an additional layer of protection because of the strong backing from the community and government.”
Egyptian expat Ehab Ewis, who has been driving in Qatar for more than ten years, talked about his worry-free experience with owning a car: “I’ve parked my car in different locations throughout the city, sometimes for several days.” I’ve never dealt with problems like graffiti or theft.”

A South African family expressed satisfaction with the safety of their children playing in public parks. “Our children play outside and visit parks regularly without any concern. The parks are well-maintained and monitored, which allows us to feel comfortable letting our kids play freely,” said Janine Madlanga, the mother.

Newlyweds Ahmed and Kholod shared how safety enhances their daily lives: “As someone who works outside, I feel confident knowing that my wife is safe at home or while out alone,” said Ahmed.
Kholod added, “The overall sense of community safety and the proactive approach of local police ensure a secure environment for both of us.”
Samia Farfour, a retired visitor, commented on the safety in public spaces: “It was remarkable to see young people and even families out late with no worries. When my son was at work, I often took walks or visited nearby parks and shops alone. The visible presence of security made me feel very safe.”
Reflecting on the impact of safety on tourism, Qatar Tourism reported over four million visitors in 2023, setting a new record. The ‘Tourism Sector Performance Q1 2024’ report showed a 40% increase in arrivals compared to the first quarter of 2023, amounting to 1.6 million visitors.
The National Planning Council reported 382,000 inbound tourists in April 2024, an increase of 17.9% year over year over April 2023.
