Qatar participates in emergency Arab League meeting on continuing genocide in Gaza
At the request of the State of Palestine, the State of Qatar took part in today’s extraordinary session of the Arab League Council at the level of permanent representatives to discuss Arab action regarding the continuation of the policy of starvation and genocide against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, as well as in light of Israeli threats to invade the Palestinian city of Rafah.
H.E. Tariq Ali Faraj Al Ansari, the State of Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League, served as the delegation’s chair.
H.E. Al Ansari declared during the meeting that Qatar vehemently opposes both the Israeli occupation’s declaration of the seizure of land in the Jordan Valley within the occupied Palestinian territory as well as the threat to invade Rafah. He emphasized that these threats are a continuation of the intentional occupation strategy, which aims to deny the Palestinian people their rights, expand settlements, and force them to leave their homeland without any sense of morality or conscience.
The State of Qatar, he continued, while reiterating its categorical rejection of violations of the rights of the Palestinian people, issues a warning that the continuation of the Israeli occupation’s contempt for international law, especially international humanitarian law, and the application of the logic of force and fait accompli will seriously damage international decision-making credibility and the likelihood of the desired peace. This is especially true given the ongoing brutal war on occupied Palestine, including the Gaza Strip, and the threats to invade other cities despite Security Council resolutions 2728 and 2700. The speaker noted that this was a dangerous precedent endangering international peace and security.
He also underlined how the war in the Gaza Strip has left civilians—including women and children—at risk in places designated for assistance distribution, and how this has led to a terrible humanitarian situation that becomes worse every day. Regarding this, he restated Qatar’s opposition to the use of food as a weapon against civilians during the Gaza Strip conflict.
Asserting responsibility and preventing impunity for all crimes committed as a result of this horrifying war, he said Qatar emphasizes the need for aid to reach all areas of the Gaza Strip without hindrance. It also emphasizes the significance of bolstering regional and international efforts for an immediate and permanent ceasefire and aggression against the Palestinian people. He underlined that the international community must uphold its moral and legal obligations to defend the Palestinian people, particularly in light of the fact that the growth of settlements results in population displacement, which is illegal under international law and is considered a war crime.
His Excellency underlined the significance of ongoing efforts within the framework of joint Arab action to find a lasting solution to the tragedy of the Palestinian brothers in this context, noting Qatar’s and the Arab Republic of Egypt’s ongoing joint efforts to achieve a sustainable ceasefire.
Additionally, he emphasized Qatar’s support for all actions taken by sister Arab nations to address the fallout from Israel’s heinous aggression against the Palestinian people and to bolster the endeavors of friendly and sister nations to offer the Palestinian people prompt, adequate, and sustainable aid. Reiterating Qatar’s support and endorsement of the decision issued by this meeting in support of the justice of the Palestinian cause, he also reaffirmed Qatar’s firm position on the justice of the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
