Qatar Airways touches down for first time in Kinshasa
Qatar Airways has established a new route in Africa that links Europe, the Middle East, and Asia with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). On Saturday, June 1, 2024, the airline’s first flight from Doha to Kinshasa touched down at N’djili International Airport, expanding its network of African destinations to 29.
With the help of Qatar Airways’ Doha hub, Hamad International Airport, the new route aims to link Kinshasa with the rest of the world.
Furthermore, this calculated action by the airline will strengthen business and economic opportunities, as well as cultural relations, and enhance air connectivity throughout the African continent.
“At Qatar Airways, we recognize the immense potential in Africa,” stated Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, Chief Executive Officer of the Qatar Airways Group. Our goal is to improve connectivity across the continent so that people may easily access possibilities for both business and recreation. We are eager to provide simple travel options to and from the Democratic Republic of the Congo for our esteemed hub, Hamad International Airport.
In addition to increasing capacity to Angola, the four weekly services will boost the number of flights to Luanda from one to four. Kinshasa’s expansion highlights Qatar Airways’ dedication to improving connectivity across the region and complements the airline’s more than 170 weekly flights throughout Africa.
Since December 2020, Qatar Airways has added nine new destinations in Africa, demonstrating the market’s rapid expansion. The African cities that have recently been added to the vast network of Qatar Airlines are Abidjan, Abuja, Accra, Kinshasa, Harare, Kano, Luanda, Lusaka, and Port Harcourt; operations in Cairo and Alexandria have been restored.
In order to provide convenient connectivity to China, Qatar Airways has also optimized its schedules in the majority of its African markets during the past 12 months. Luanda and Kinshasa, with this new route that conveniently connects with important markets like Belgium, France, Portugal, and the Middle East, are two more examples of this.
