Qatar Airways expands African network with new route to Kinshasa

The flag carrier of Qatar, Qatar Airways, has announced its most recent network expansion into Africa, extending the reach of its worldwide network even further.

The airline will improve its service to Luanda, Angola, and add Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, as a new route.

With Kinshasa added, Qatar Airways has now reached 29 African destinations, which is a major milestone.

Beginning on June 1st, the airline will launch service to Kinshasa and boost the number of weekly flights to Luanda from one to four.

Flight schedule

The following schedules will apply to the flights, which include connections to Luanda for further travel.

Arriving at N’Djili International Airport (FIH) in Kinshasa at 08:10 AM local time, flight QRQ1491 will take off from Hamad International Airport (DOH) at 02:45 AM.

After taking off from FIH at 09:40 local time, the aircraft will arrive at Luanda International Airport (LAD) around 10:55 local time.

The flight from Luanda is scheduled to return at 12:25 PM local time from LAD and arrive in DOH at 10:50 PM local time.

Parallel to this, at 09:20 AM local time, Flight QRQ1489 will take off from DOH and arrive in LAD at 03:40 PM local time.

Proceeding from LAD at 05:10 PM local time, the flight is scheduled to arrive at FIH at 06:25 PM local time.

At 07:55 PM local time, the return flight from Kinshasa is expected to take off from FIH and arrive at DOH at 05:45 AM local time.

“We have seen significant milestones in our 2024 network expansion and this latest addition is particularly special, as it continues our strategic goal of increasing our footprint in Africa,” said Thierry Antinori, Chief Commercial Officer of Qatar Airways, expressing enthusiasm for the latest expansion. The most recent example of our efforts to enhance connectivity to Africa is the addition of Kinshasa to our network.

In addition, it has been claimed that Qatar Airways is in preliminary talks with Boeing and Airbus for the purchase of up to 150 wide-body aircraft, with the aim of modernizing its aging fleet of long-haul aircraft.

Presently, the airline operates a comprehensive fleet of 258 aircraft, comprising 29 Airbus A320s, 12 A330s, 58 A350s, 10 A380s, nine Boeing 737MAXs, 64 777s, 47 787s, along with two 747-8Fs, and 26 777Fs.
