QATAR 2022: Uruguay’s Araujo expected to play in World Cup: AUF president
Ignacio Alonso, the president of the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF), expressed his hope that Ronald Araujo would play in the World Cup in Qatar as the defender continues to recuperate from thigh surgery.
In September, Uruguay lost 1-0 to Iran in a friendly. Barcelona center-back Araujo, 23, left the field after just five minutes due to an injury.
Alonso stated to the Uruguayan newspaper Ovacion on Thursday, “We experienced a significant setback with Ronald Araujo, but he is conquering it little by little.”
“We are going to have the opportunity for him to be at the Uruguay training camp, evaluated by the doctors and the coaching staff, and God willing he could be in one of the matches.”
Diego Alonso, the Uruguayan coach, has been in touch with Barcelona regarding Araujo’s recuperation as well as Edinson Cavani, who has missed the last two LaLiga games against Valencia due to an ankle injury.
Alonso stated that Edinson Cavani’s precautionary absence from the team was the only other area of worry.
We are aware that he does not have a medical report of a significant injury since we lack one.
The 26-man roster for Uruguay will be revealed later on Thursday. On November 24, they take on South Korea to begin their World Cup run. They are also in Group H with Portugal and Ghana.
