Parents, students, and staff at MES Indian School participated in an online session hosted by the Ministry of Interior’s Cybercrimes Prevention Department to increase awareness about cybercrimes, which include hacking, fraudulent practices of all types, threats, and blackmail, as well as ways to prevent them.
In his speech, First Lieutenant Abdullah Al Harmi, an officer in the Cybercrimes Prevention Department, discussed common cybercrimes, strategies for preventing them, and the penalties for various cybercrimes, including cybertheft, phishing, fraudulent messages, blackmail, and piracy, among others. He also described the public services that the Department provides.
General tips for combating cybercrimes were covered in the webinar. These included protecting bank cards, social media accounts, and internet accounts; handling unsolicited calls and texts with caution; and not disclosing passwords or personal identification numbers to third parties. The principal of the school, Dr. Hameeda Kadar, praised the officer for educating the audience about cybercrimes and safeguards. In the Q&A period, parents and children got their questions answered.
