Kane on target as England cruise into quarter-final
At the Al Bayt Stadium, England defeated Senegal, the reigning African champion, 3-0 to advance to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 quarterfinals where they will face France.
The 1966 champions are looking to improve on their performance from four years ago in Russia, where they reached the semifinal. Jordan Henderson and Harry Kane scored in the first half to get the Three Lions off to a good start, and Bukayo Saka sealed the victory for Gareth Southgate’s team in the second.
Sadio Mane, Senegal’s powerful captain, was absent from the tournament due to injury, and midfielders Idrissa Gana Gueye and Cheikhou Kouyate were also absent from the match due to suspension and injuries, respectively.
