Eight South Africa venues confirmed for 2027 Cricket World Cup

 

CEO of Cricket South Africa Pholetsi Moseki said that eight South African locations have been confirmed for the 2027 Cricket World Cup.

Matches will be played in Zimbabwe and Namibia, which will co-host the event, in addition to the South African venues.

The eight South African locations, according to Moseki, were picked for “scientific” reasons, such as being close to an airport and having hotel rooms available, as reported by the South African News24 website.

 

Matches will be held at the regular Test grounds in South Africa, which are the Wanderers in Johannesburg, SuperSport Park in Centurion, Newlands in Cape Town, Kingsmead in Durban, and St George’s Park in Gqeberha.

The other locations are Buffalo Park in East London, Boland Park in Paarl, and the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.

The previous time South Africa hosted the World Cup was in 2003, when all eight grounds were utilized.

Although they hosted matches in 2003 as well, Benoni, Potchefstroom, and Kimberley were left out of the 2027 lineup.

The competition is slated to take place in October and November of 2027.

With a seating capacity of roughly 30,000, Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg is the top stadium in South Africa. hosted the 2009 Champions Trophy semifinal as well as the finals of the 2003 World Cup and the first-ever 2007 T20 World Cup.

More Test matches than any other South African stadium have been played at Newlands, Cape Town, with Table Mountain as a backdrop. The ground has held 60 Test matches in total. It served as the site of both the 2007 T20 World Cup semi-final and the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup final.

SuperSport Park, Centurion: The 2009 Champions Trophy final was held at this specially constructed stadium outside of Pretoria.

The 2003 World Cup semifinal and the 2007 T20 World Cup semifinal were held in Kingsmead, Durban.

The oldest test site in South Africa is St. George’s Park in Gqeberha. hosted a World Cup semifinal in 2003.

 

Another picturesque location in the Cape Winelands is Boland Park near Paarl. In addition to the five grounds mentioned above, a SA20 franchise competition team’s center. three World Cup matches were hosted by them in 2003.

Bloemfontein’s Springbok Park has hosted five Test matches in addition to two World Cup Super Six games in 2003.

Buffalo Park, East London: Used for Super Six matches in 2003, but not often used for men’s international matches in recent years. It has held one Test match.
