Culture Ministry to hold annual forum for authors tomorrow
Under the patronage of Minister of Culture H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad bin Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani the Ministry of Culture, represented by Qatari Forum for Authors, is set to organize the annual forum of authors next Saturday, under the banner “With Thought We Thrive” at the Sheraton Hotel.
The annual forum intends to achieve the objectives of the Qatari Forum for Authors, which are devoted to consolidating the relationship between members of the forum and those related to culture, and involve writers and authors in the cultural planning process, especially in the field of authorship and writing.
The Director General of the Forum, Director of the Culture and Arts Department at the Ministry of Culture Maryam Yassin Al Hammadi said in a statement to QNA the forum is annual tradition for Qatari Forum for Authors, where authors are traditionally honored on the World Book Day on April, 23 of each year to remember those who offered production in the field of writing and authorship to pave the way for the social and cultural progress for the humanity in general, and to be those who make positive impact. She added that the event was coinciding with the Holy Ramadan and it had been deferred until June 25, 2022.
She added that the country is proud that the annual forum of authors is held with the efforts of its members, as well as the efforts of the Qatari Publishers and Distributors Forum, as well as actors in the fields of culture and authorship in particular, to achieve more sober literary production and cultural and creative giving in the State of Qatar.
On the other hand, the Qatari Forum for Authors, in cooperation with Dar Al Sharq Group, announced the launch of the press article writing competition “Visitor to the Heritage of Literature”, which intends to revive the Arab literary heritage and bolster the writing skill of young people.
This contest comes within the project to discover and sponsor talents and to complement the initiative of a visitor to the heritage of literature that was previously launched in cooperation between the Forum and Dar Al Sharq, which spotlights a group of heritage literary books presented by a group of academics through the YouTube channel and social networking sites of the Forum.
The contest requires that the participant be a Qatari or a resident of the State of Qatar in the age group between 16 and 36 years, and that the article is centred on the Arab heritage and shall be written in Standard Arabic, and the number of words shall be not less than 300 words and does not exceed 500 words.
The forum had previously announced the names of the winners of the unpublished book contest, which was held in cooperation with Dar Al Sharq. The Qatari Forum for Authors intends to publish members production in books and periodicals, encourage the translation of good books into international languages, in addition to encouraging and transferring world heritage into Arabic language, as well as strengthening the relations with authors, Arab unions, writers and Arab and international writers, strengthening relations between authors and coordinating their efforts, and work on nurturing literary talents and working on refining and developing their capabilities.
The event also intends to revitalize the cultural movement, coordinate efforts and positions with professional and cultural associations and unions in the state of Qatar towards national and national issues, and pay attention to literature and popular culture and studies relevant to them.
