Al Jazeera calls for global solidarity to prosecute killers of Shireen Abu Akleh
Shireen Abu Akleh, an Al Jazeera journalist, was brutally and deliberately killed by Israeli occupation troops in Palestine one hundred days ago. The cold-blooded murder of Shireen led to widespread condemnation of the Israeli occupation forces’ efforts to kill journalists in order to silence the media.
Evidence has shown how far the Israeli occupation forces tried to fabricate events in order to avoid being condemned and punished by the international community.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights hired famous worldwide media organizations to conduct impartial investigations during the last 100 days. The investigations all came to the same conclusion: Shireen was killed by Israeli occupation troops, as reported by eyewitnesses.
Such findings support the claims made by the Abu Akleh family and Al Jazeera Media Network that Shireen was purposefully targeted by the Israeli occupation troops. Al Jazeera continues to demand an unbiased, independent international investigation in light of these conclusions.
Al Jazeera Media Network has organized worldwide legal professionals to submit a case file to the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague as part of its global effort to prosecute those guilty for the murder of Shireen and expose the truth to the world.
The network held solidarity vigils at its headquarters in Doha and in its offices around the world to commemorate 100 days after Shireen’s murder, and Shireen’s coworkers attended. The network urged all governments, journalists, and influential people to concentrate their efforts on August 18 [yesterday] in order to demand justice for Shireen and accountability for her assassins.
Al Jazeera Media Network reaffirmed its commitment to Shireen’s cause and its steadfast pursuit of justice for Shireen to her family, friends, and coworkers around the world.
