Qatar Calls Sudanese Waring Parties to Resume Negotiations

The State of Qatar emphasized the need for cooperation to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need and to uphold the principles and regulations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law. It called on the warring parties in Sudan to resume negotiations in order to reach an agreement that would put an end to the fighting and spare civilians further suffering.

This was said in a statement made by Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah, HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Office in Geneva, during the Enhanced Interactive Dialogue on the High Commissioner’s Report on Sudan, which was held in conjunction with the Human Rights Council’s 55th session in Geneva.

Her Excellency urged the international community to step up its efforts and provide more support to meet the growing needs of the Sudanese people, reaffirming that the State of Qatar stands by them in their difficult times and will continue to offer all forms of support and humanitarian aid to lessen the burden of the current crisis on them.

She reaffirmed Qatar’s unwavering support for Sudan’s territorial integrity and unity, as well as its rejection of any meddling in its internal affairs. She also stressed the importance of upholding Sudanese citizens’ rights to human rights advocacy, human rights protection, and the realization of their justifiable aspirations for peace, security, and stability.

The State of Qatar regrets the human rights situation in Sudan as a result of the fighting, which has been going on for more than ten months, according to HE the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva. Doha emphasizes the urgency of putting an immediate stop to these crimes and violations against civilians in the capital, Khartoum, in the states of Darfur, and in other parts of Sudan.
