Nerve-wracking match sends social media into frenzy; over 25 million WhatsApp messages sent per second
Many records were broken during this World Cup, making it special. This record was set by the messaging service WhatsApp.
It was noted in a tweet that during the tense penalty kicks between Argentina and France in the FIFA World Cup Final, more than 25 million messages were sent and received every second. adding that it was happy to have participated in the competition.
Mark Zuckerberg the Founder and CEO of Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp and Facebook, also stated this on his social media channel as he wrote, “Leo Messi’s World Cup post is now the most liked in Instagram history. WhatsApp also reached a record 25 million messages per second during the final.”
Additionally, Twitter CEO Elon Musk reported that the goal by France generated 24,400 tweets per second, which was a “most ever for World Cup!”
Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, also claimed that during the final, the search engine saw its highest traffic in 25 years, tweeting, “Search recorded its biggest traffic in 25 years during the final of the #FIFAWorldCup, it felt like the entire globe was searching about one thing!”
