Dominant Portugal fly sans Ronaldo
As a commanding player, Goncalo Ramos scored an incredible hat trick. Portugal defeated Switzerland 6-1 at the Lusail Stadium to advance to play Morocco in the quarterfinals.
Star player Cristiano Ronaldo had been benched by Portugal coach Fernando Santos, and Ramos had taken his place. The Porto player made no mistakes, scoring the game’s first goal just 17 minutes into play before adding two more goals in the second half to support Santos’ choice.
Veteran Pepe, Raphael Guerreiro, and substitute Rafael Leao all scored for A Selecao. Manuel Akanji got a consolation strike for Switzerland, who failed to qualify for the quarter-final of a major tournament once again.
Portugal will now face Africa’s remaining team Morocco on Saturday at the Al Thumama Stadium.
