Twitter plans to raise monthly subscriber price to $19.99: Verge

According to a late Sunday Verge story, Twitter Inc. plans to increase the monthly cost of its optional Twitter Blue subscription from $4.99 to $19.99 and introduce new features like paid user verification.

The story, which cited unnamed persons familiar with the situation and internal communications it had seen, stated that under the plan, verified users would have 90 days to subscribe or they would lose their blue checkmark.

Staff working on the project were told they will be dismissed if they don’t meet the November 7 launch deadline, the Verge said.

Following the publication of the article, investor Jason Calacanis polled Twitter users to find out how much they would pay to be verified “would not pay” a monthly fee of $15. Musk remarked that it was “it’s “interesting” that 78.7% of respondents have so far indicated that they will not pay.

Since the $44 billion acquisition of Twitter, Elon Musk has had a wide range of intentions for the company, with prospective workforce reductions and changes to content moderation among his main areas of attention. The multibillionaire businessman has also made noises about getting rid of website bots.

The Verge contacted Twitter for comment, but no one from the company returned the call.
