Russian news agency Sputnik International stated in a report that the FIFA World Cup is one of the most important sporting events, to be held in Qatar within a month, with Qatar being the first Arab country to have the honor to host the World Cup in the history of the competition. The news agency added that Qatar has done its best to ensure that the tournament is held at the highest possible level. However, Western media has developed a series of myths designed to discredit the hosting of the World Cup by Qatar even before it even begins.
Sputnik pointed out that Western media did not criticize the 1998 and 2006 World Cups in France and Germany, respectively. Western media actively criticized the hosting of South Africa in 2010 claiming security reasons, Brazil in 2018 for allegedly spreading poverty among the local population, and Russia in 2018 under the pretext of lack of adequate freedom, and finally now Qatar in 2022 by fabricating lies about the situation of workers, therefore for some reason – according to the report – the Western world does not want to see the World Cup anywhere but Europe.
