France’s Kante ruled out of World Cup after hamstring surgery
N’Golo Kante, a player for France, has been excluded from the World Cup finals following surgery for a hamstring injury, his Premier League side Chelsea announced on Tuesday.
The midfielder, who was essential to Les Bleus’ championship-winning campaign in 2018, had a setback last week and is now expected to miss four months of action following surgery.
The hamstring injury that Kante suffered in the beginning of the season has now prevented him from being selected for the World Cup in Qatar, which runs from November 20 to December 18.
This season, the 31-year-old has only appeared in two Premier League games and has clocked in 175 minutes.
“The midfielder visited a specialist with the club’s medical department to explore the options for his rehabilitation approach and it was mutually agreed for N’Golo to have surgery to repair the damage,” Chelsea said in a statement.
Kante has been a vital player for Chelsea since his move from Leicester City in 2016 and equally important for France, having earned 53 caps.
Didier Deschamps, the head coach, has already stated that he would not select any players who would not be healthy at the start of the competition.
Before picking his team on November 9, he now has some difficult decisions to make because another important midfielder, Paul Pogba, is questionable because the Juventus player had knee surgery last month.
Australia, Denmark, and Tunisia were also placed in Group D with France.
