Messi worried by Dybala and Di Maria injuries ahead of Qatar 2022
Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina, expressed concern over recent injuries to Paulo Dybala and Angel Di Maria, members of his national team, but expressed optimism that they would both heal in time for the World Cup.
Messi said that injuries were always a concern for players prior to any major international competition. He has missed two games for his side Paris St. Germain owing to a calf issue.
The 35-year-old told DirecTV Sports, “It’s a concern because it’s a different World Cup, you play at a different time, and we’re so close that any little thing that can happen to you can leave you out.”
“I hope they both recover, they have plenty of time to get well for the World Cup. Hopefully, we can all get there in good health.”
Di Maria’s hamstring issue is anticipated to keep him out until the beginning of next month, and Dybala’s thigh issue may prevent him from competing in Qatar in November or December.
The possibility of injury so close to the World Cup, according to Messi, is “frightening.”
“Seeing these things is frightening, but contemplating them can be confusing. The best course of action is to carry on as usual, and playing is the best way to stay healthy, he continued.
Messi has been cleared to play for PSG in their Ligue 1 matchup against Olympique de Marseille tomorrow.
Argentina will compete in World Cup Group C against Saudi Arabia, Mexico, and Poland.
