Qatar 2022 organisers give details on getting around in Corniche from next month

Starting from November 1 to December 19, the Corniche Street will be pedestrianized and the flow of traffic will be diverted away from the area beginning at certain intersections.

This was announced in a press conference on key transport information during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 set to kick-off in November. The conference was held in Doha on Wednesday by representatives from the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Transport, Qatar Rail, Mowasalat and the Public Works Authority (Ashghal).

From November 1, vehicles will be diverted away from Corniche Street from the intersections namely Ras Abu Aboud, Sheraton, Al Meena, Grand Hamad, Al Diwan, Al Marmar, Al Maha, and Barzan.

Authorities also stated that impacted entities and businesses in the Corniche will be able to apply for permits as direct coordination with them is already underway.

The different mode of transport which are not permitted in Corniche, parks, and pedestrian areas are scooters, motorbikes, and bicycles. Meanwhile, boats and ships may continue their operations provided that these vessels are at a distance from water security perimeter.

For fans who want to reach Central Doha, multiple public transport options are also made accessible to attend events, attractions, and the FIFA Fan Festival at Al Bidda Park and in the area.

These include the Doha Metro, Metro Park & Ride, Taxi, Uber, Careem, Stadium Express Bus, Shuttle Bus Loop, and Park & Ride.

The nearest Metro Stations near Central Doha are West Bay-Qatar Energy, Corniche station,  and Al Bidda. Fans should also note that The FIFA Fan Festival located at Al Bidda Park is directly serviced by the Red and Green Lines.

Parking is limited in Central Doha and fans are advised to park their vehicles near the specified stations and take the metro. These Metro stations include Lusail QNB, Qatar University, Umm Ghuwailina, Al Messila, Al Qassar, and Al Wakra.

Taxi, Uber and Careem will also operate to take fans in convenient pick up and drop-off areas. Drop-off and pick-up areas are Ashghal Towers, Al Bidda Park, Khalifa Tennis & Squash Complex, Souq Waqif, and MIA Park.

Free shuttle loop buses are also available to ferry fans around Central Doha to facilitate easy access to activations. More information can be found here.
