FIFA World Cup fever as fans from the Americas visit Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium
As excitement grows for the first FIFA World Cup to be held in the Middle East and Arab world, more than 60 Americans living in Qatar visited Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium.
Along with supporters of Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, and Uruguay, the event was attended by spectators from Canada, Costa Rica, Mexico, and the USA. During the vibrant and fervent event, which was organized by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy’s (SC) Fan Leader Network, they were joined by ambassadors.
The stadium, Ahmad Bin Ali, which will host seven games in Qatar 2022, beginning on November 21 with the USA vs. Wales, provided the fans with an exclusive visit. The venue will host Canada’s first World Cup game there since 1986 when they take on European powerhouses Belgium on November 23.
Don Rikley, a supporter of Canada, said: “I’m quite happy. Since Canada qualified, it’s been a build-up for me. The anticipation and enthusiasm are palpable after you purchase tickets and visit the stadium for a closer look. The World Cup being held in a country like Qatar, where you can see several games, is incredibly thrilling.
Camila Morales, an Argentine supporter, claimed that the visit placed Brazil’s animosity with her country to one side.
We anticipated the gathering to be really festive, she remarked. Although we are aware of the constant rivalry between Argentina and Brazil, the atmosphere today was lovely. The World Cup is less than 100 days away, so the anticipation is high.
The tour came to an end at the press conference area of the stadium, where Ahmad Khalil and Mohammed Saadon Al Kuwari, two ambassadors for Qatar’s Legacy, spoke alongside representatives from the SC’s Fan Engagement and Community Engagement teams. A fun quiz was also taken by the supporters.
According to Haya Al Kuwari, the SC’s Fan Engagement Lead, “These Fan Leader Network events are a terrific way for our local fans to become involved in the lead-up to the FIFA World Cup and see first-hand the sites where the tournament will take place.” “Our fan leaders are playing a crucial part in generating excitement for Qatar 2022 in their local communities and spreading the word about the nation and area to fans in their home countries,” said the organization.
In order to help to pre-tournament planning through fan insight, research, content creation, and message amplification, the SC recruited more than 400 fan leaders and influencers from 60 different nations to form the Fan Leader Network.
