Students return to schools with COVID-19 measures in place
After their summer break, students all throughout Qatar will start going back to school today as the 2022–23 school year begins amid COVID–19 prevention measures.
More than 500 public and private schools around the nation will welcome back more nearly 350,000 students today.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has made sure that schools are prepared to safely welcome back pupils and has mandated that strong preventive measures be implemented at schools.
Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, the undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, provided an overview of the Ministry’s plans for the upcoming academic year in a video message published by the Ministry. According to Al Nuaimi, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education is carrying out its duties in accordance with the wise leadership’s direction that made providing a high-quality education a national priority.
In terms of the academic achievements of pupils in all grades, he anticipated that this year will be filled with accomplishments.
This year will be unique since Qatar will host the massive sporting event, the FIFA World Cup 2022, in which a number of employees, professors, and students will give their time.
“The academic year 2022–2023 is also very important in that we will celebrate this year the 70th anniversary of our education system, which began in 1952, showcasing the effectiveness of schools and universities in providing manpower to service the labor market.”
He claimed that the Ministry has established objectives for this year that put a particular emphasis on students, teachers, schools, and the Ministry.
“Under the proposal, there will be a greater emphasis on pupils’ learning, value-instillation, and health care. Additionally, students will receive better academic guidance. In order to satisfy the demands of the labor market, a specific emphasis will also be placed on scientific and technology streams, according to Al Nuaimi.
He that the Ministry will hire qualified teachers from among Qatari citizens and nationals of other countries. “They will be provided different options for professional development. The work environment at schools will be improved for their better performance.”
As per the plan, he said schools will be provided support as per their needs and requirements.
All staff and students at all government and private nurseries, kindergartens, and schools are required to take a rapid antigen test for COVID-19 within 48 hours before they return to school for the new academic year.
Wearing masks at schools during first two weeks is also mandatory.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has opened five new preparatory and secondary schools for boys and girls in various regions of the nation to handle the increasing number of students during the current academic year.
Students have begun enrolling in the new schools for the upcoming academic year. 786 pupils can be accommodated in each school’s 36 classrooms, including 36 children with special needs who are split up into 6 classes.
Modern facilities at the new schools will make it easier for teachers and administrators to do their jobs, enhancing the educational experience for the children.
