The most reliable league table and the forerunner of international university rankings are both credited to ARWU. The number of Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals won by alumni and staff, the number of articles published in journals of Nature and Science, the number of Highly Cited Researchers, the number of articles indexed in Science Citation Index – Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index based on data in the Web of Science, and per capita performance are just a few of the six objective indicators that ARWU uses to rank the world’s universities.
