Engineers Australia Qatar Chapter organises panel discussion on ‘Road to 2022 – Delivering Excellence’

Engineers Australia Qatar Chapter (EAQC) recently organised a CEO panel discussion at the Australian Embassy premises which was presided by Australian Ambassador to Qatar, H E Jonathan Muir.

The envoy said: “The Australian embassy in Qatar is proud to be associated with its dynamic and energised EAQC.”

He added that the event is “about the legacy of the World Cup in Qatar. It’s hard to think of a single event whose hosting has had more impact on a nation, than this World Cup, on this nation.

“One of the world’s biggest events in one of the world’s smallest countries. The ambition was audacious. My own view is that it will be a great event.

“And when the whistle is blown, most people will just remember the great football and the great atmosphere. And thanks to their epic qualification a couple of weeks ago, we will hopefully see more famous victories by the Socceroos.”

The Ambassador was speaking at the CEO Panel Discussion organised by EAQC at the Australian Embassy in Doha recently; the theme being “Road to 2022 – Delivering Excellence”.

The evening commenced with a welcome address by EAQC President, Tamer Naguib wherein he highlighted the role of engineers in building a better future and Qatar’s journey towards the FIFA World Cup 2022 delivering world-class roads and infrastructure projects, as well as state-of-the-art stadiums to host the games.

He also emphasised the role of EAQC in supporting the Socceroos team during their qualifier games in Qatar, where Socceroos managed to secure a spot in the coming FIFA World Cup.

The event was also presided by Deputy Head of Mission Lachlan Mcleod.

Amongst the panellists were highly accomplished industry leaders: Bassam Halabi, Regional General Manager of GHD; Omar Bahgat, Vice-President and Regional Manager of ECG, and Oussama El Jerby, Area Managing Director of CCC.

It included panel discussions followed by a Q&A session with the panellists. The Panel discussion and Q&A session was conducted by EAQC Deputy President Asif Rahmany.

They shared their experience and provided their insights about some important topics related to delivering projects ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar such as Leadership, FIFA requirements in Design and Construction, Safety, Environment & Sustainability, and finally the Lessons Learned.

The event was concluded by presenting awards to the panellists in recognition for their service to the engineering profession, and a vote of thanks by EAQC Secretary, Mohammed Abdelrahman.
