Adidas unveiled the official ball for the World Cup 2022, which will be held in the state of Qatar, emphasising that it has unique specifications and features never seen before in World Cup history.
The global company stated that the ball’s name is “Al Rihla,” an Arabic name inspired by Qatari culture that means “The Journey,” and that it is the 14th ball in a row that it has made for the World Cup. The ball is distinguished by its ability to move faster in the air than any other ball in tournament history.
“This is an amazing, sustainable, and high-quality Adidas official ball that will be enjoyed by football stars in Qatar as well as players everywhere,” FIFA Marketing Director Jean-Francois Pathy said.
“The ball “Al Rihla” will travel around the world to represent the atmosphere of the FIFA World Cup travel to every place and will give fans a unique opportunity to interact with the event that is becoming increasingly exciting,” he added.
The ball is designed in Adidas labs using rigorous data and testing, and it is tested by a number of soccer players.
Because of its new design and surface texture, the ball has the highest levels of accuracy and reliability.
According to FIFA, the ball for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar has significant advantages, as the ball core provides speed, accuracy, consistency of movement, and stability in the air, in addition to rebound accuracy.
The ball’s surface is textured synthetic leather made up of 20 pieces with a new design that aids in its accuracy and stability during flight.
“With the pace of play and the speed of movement rising, the accuracy and stability of the ball are becoming very important,” said Francesca Lofelmann, Design Director at Adidas.
“For the world’s biggest sporting event, we set out to make the impossible possible by radically innovating the fastest and most accurate World Cup ball to date,” Lofelmann added.
According to FIFA, the ball was named “Al Rihla” because it was inspired by Qatar’s culture, architecture, and boats, as well as the country’s flag.
The ball’s first public appearance will be accompanied by legends of the game such as Iker Casillas, Kaka, Farah Jafri, and Nouf Al-Anzi, as well as a group of football talents from Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, as well as the next generation players from Aspire Academy in Doha.
The official announcement of the ball marked the beginning of its journey to ten cities in different regions of the world, including Dubai, Tokyo, Mexico, and New York.
