The Twegate Dance group in Qatar forms its root from an African country, Uganda. The dance group was founded in the year 2020 in Qatar.
Twegate Dance Group focuses on uniting all Ugandans residing in Qatar and in all communities. In addition to promoting the Ugandan culture in the Diaspora and to encourage Uganda tourists.
To make their performances unique and to showcase Ugandan cultural heritage, the performers wear traditional costumes featuring the national colours of the Ugandan flag including black, red and yellow.
Their drums are handmade from Uganda and produce typical African tunes. The Twegate Dance group which started with just three members now has over 40 members but usually, 16 people are present on the stage during their performances. They normally have their rehearsals on Fridays and Saturdays.
Through the traditional dances of the Twegate Dance Group, Ugandans are united through music, drama and dance.
The group fosters beautiful and healthy relationship between Ugandans and Qataris and of course with other nationalities by sharing in Qatar culture through festival. As Qatar is a multi-cultural society, they have been able to interact with people from different countries through their performances. They also build the bridge between Ugandan and Qatar via the combination of both countries’ art and culture in their dance shows, and also through quality social media engagement.
The Twegate Dance group takes part in community engagement and events in relation to the oncoming Qatar FIFA World Cup 2022.
The dance group trilled fans at the FIFA Club World Cup 2019 Fan Zone at Doha Sports Park, the Mall of Qatar and at the Khalifa International Stadium besides other places. They performed Ugandan songs and dances accompanied by drumming.
Prior to that, the group had also performed at major events including the 24th Arabian Gulf Cup. The group’s performance was facilitated by the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.
To crown it all, the group organizes social events to portray Qatar’s level of diversity and spread massive love and unity within Qatar and across the whole world at large through amazing music, drama and dance.
