The extensive audit of mobile networks that the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) conducted from August to December 2021 to evaluate the improvements in the Quality of Service (QoS) levels offered by service providers in Qatar—Ooredoo Qatar and Vodafone Qatar—published its summary results report yesterday on its website.
Some Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of the services offered by the service providers that are in compliance with the requirements and conditions of the licenses issued to them by the CRA and the relevant regulatory framework were benchmarked as part of the audit.

The mobile phone calls, SMS, and mobile Internet data services, including those offered over the Fifth Generation (5G) network, were all covered by the audit. More than 58,000 samples from each service provider’s network that were gathered from various locations throughout Qatar, including streets, major roads, and highways, were subjected to the audit during working days’ busiest hours.
The CRA obtained results that accurately reflect the experiences of mobile telecom customers in Qatar by utilizing its QoS systems with the most recent models of devices and smartphones.

The audit results show that the service providers have significantly improved their ability to provide better data throughputs while continuing to maintain high standards of accessibility, retainability, and integrity of the services given to their customers. It was observed that the service providers were able to demonstrate fast download speeds in their networks to a larger environment thanks to the upgraded 5G ecosystem.
The audit’s findings also demonstrate how both service providers’ networks are prepared to deliver exceptional QoS and accommodate significant data demands during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The millimeter wave spectrum, part of the extra 5G spectrum that the CRA will issue to service providers in 2021, will completely transform Qatar’s mobile broadband performance.
The CRA declares that finding the best network or comparing service providers in Qatar was not the goal of the assessment.

The CRA emphasizes that the audit’s findings should not be used for any purpose that does not serve the required value of the report, such as promoting the best service provider or taking a part of the report to be used in a way that it may abuse another service provider. The audit’s findings should also not be used in a way that may be misleading or inaccurate given the audit’s scope.
